How do I charge a lithium battery?
Redway Lithium batteries perform best when charged by a lithium compatible charger. Lead acid or SLA chargers, on-board chargers for AGM batteries, or other non-lithium chargers will charge a Redway Lithium battery but only to 70-80% of capacity. This is because Redway Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology charges and is full at a higher voltage then traditional batteries (Redway Lithium charges at 14.4 Volts). Chargers with a lithium battery setting or designed for lithium will charge at the appropriate voltage.
Don’t Overcharge LiFePO4 Marine Batteries
Many boat owners make the mistake of overcharging their lithium batteries. A battery management system usually monitors the charge levels and will automatically turn off once the limit is reached, yet it's essential to ensure that this is working correctly. It's recommended to monitor and remove the battery when it has been charged up to around 80 percent - otherwise, its capability and life may be reduced due to potentially hazardous conditions created by overcharging.

When charging a lithium battery, make sure the environment is moderate and comfortable. On hot days, bring the charger inside where it's climate-controlled and not in direct sunlight. Are LiFePO4 Marine Batteries Safe?

How to get the longest battery life out of my LiFePO4 Marine Batteries?
For the longest possible battery life, you must top off LiFePO4 batteries after each use. Do not discharge or overcharge them by leaving them connected to a charger well beyond the full charge cycle. The battery has a limited number of charge and discharge cycles over the long run, with one cycle either being the complete charge and discharge cycle or a cumulative one.

Keep LiFePO4 Marine Batteries Out of the Heat
Although LiFePO4 Marine Batteries are more heat-resistant than lead-acid batteries, they can still overheat if left in hot and strenuous conditions. Overheating is a major concern with all batteries. Lithium batteries should not be left out in the sun on a hot day—especially when they are charging. When done charging, let the batteries rest and cool down for a few minutes before using them to prevent overheating.
Why does the battery stop working a few seconds after a high current draw?
It is important to make sure that the load does not exceed the BMS's continuous output current limit. If the load exceeds the limits of the BMS, the pack will be shut down. To reset, disconnect the electrical load and troubleshoot your load and make sure that the continuous current is less than the maximum continuous current for the pack. The battery can be reset by attaching the charger back to it for a few seconds. If your battery requires an additional current output, please contact with us.
Are LiFePO4 Marine Batteries waterproof?
If they are splashed with water, they will be fine. They cannot be completely submerged.
Can you shut off or change the BMS board?
No, you cannot turn off the battery or change the BMS board.
Will LiFePO4 Marine Batteries catch fire or blow up? I heard they are unsafe and a fire hazard.
There is the potential for any battery to fail, sometimes catastrophically, or catch on fire. Moreover, lithium metal batteries are more volatile, do not recharge, and should not be confused with lithium-ion batteries. Redway Lithium Batteries use lithium iron phosphate cells (LiFePO4) for their lithium-ion chemistry, which has the highest thermal runaway temperature of all the different lithium battery types on the market. Some lithium-ion chemistries are more volatile than others, but all have made significant advances in recent years. Also note that all lithium batteries are subjected to rigorous UN testing before shipping worldwide.
Will the cost of Lithium batteries become cheaper?
Lithium materials are about 3-4 times more expensive than lead-acid for the same capacity. This will change as worldwide supply increases.
Can Redway LiFePO4 Marine Batteries be fully discharged and then disposed of in the regular garbage?
It is essential to check and follow your applicable regulations before disposing of 12V Lithium batteries. Disposing of waste electronic equipment in standard waste receptacles is prohibited in many countries. Keep only discharged batteries in a battery collection container. To prevent short circuits, cover battery connections with electrical tape or another approved covering.
